Lazy Sunday

3/25/2013 LP:
Back Squat: 1x2, 115lb, 1x5, 110lb, 3x8, 95lb
Press: 3x6, 45lb
Deadlift, 1x5, 125lb
Double Under Work

Not having a second squat day in the week (usually Saturday) I wasn't feeling as good for last night's squats. I attempted 115 but almost couldn't get up on my second rep so I dropped back to 110. Though I have a fun new game plan to help me get my weights progressing again the next time I get in for a second day. This was also my first day squatting in the new Rogue racks. They're much smaller than the old power racks we had. I also was giving it another shot in my vibrams and I think I need to go back to the chucks. I catch myself pulling forward and my knees coming in slightly in the vibrams. Not what I need to be doing!

All the 2.5 lb plates were taken so I had to stick with the bar for my press but tacked on an extra rep for fun.  It was my last week at the 125 mark for deadlift. It wasn't my best performance, but not bad. I just kind of started it without much thinking. I am looking forward to moving up to 130 again next week.

Brief recap of the weekend:

  • Volunteered for the O-Run on Saturday. It rained almost the entire time and was cold. However, watching teams try to get a 65 and 90 lb dummy over a high bar was plenty entertaining!
  • Finally got warm and stayed in to watch Zero Dark Thirty. Very intense!
  • Sunday brunch!!!  (Great substitute, syrup was heavenly)
  • Lazy Sunday.  I had on pajamas until almost 2pm. That never happens!
  • Hosted family dinner with my folks
Week is fantastic so far and getting better by the day. Woke up to my phone finally getting the 4.2.2 update. Only a four day work week. Trip to NC on Friday so the boyfriend can get his first tattoo. Fun times with his family. Easter lunch with my fam. And the return of spring weather!

Nerd alert!

3/19/2013 WOD:
5 RFT
5 Power Cleans (55 lbs)
20 Double Unders (80 singles)
Time: 8 minutes

I did another solo workout instead of playing with the class. I'm starting to feel guilty for rarely doing class work, but they're still moving s slow! I opted for doing one that included two things I needed to work on. However, attempting double unders in the first round I realized I was going to be there all night. It took me forever just to get five so I moved on to singles instead. From being on my toes to pull in the clean and then again for the singles, the balls of my feet were pretty achy when I was finished.

In addition to getting back into the four day a week routine, I'm also going to start a three day a week program to help me get to my pull-ups (hopefully)! I'll work in into what I'm already doing so it shouldn't require any crazy amount of extra time.

I'm on super high nerd alert at the moment! Verizon is FINALLY releasing the second Jelly Bean update (4.2) for the Galaxy Nexus this week. I found out on Tuesday and have been staring at my phone waiting for the little notification to pop up. I know, I know...a watched pot never boils!

Freedom!!!

I should start at the beginning....

Over the last few months, if not years, I have been growing increasingly tired of Facebook and what it's become. At first it was a neat way to keep up and share your life with people who you didn't see as often or wouldn't have necessarily kept up with at all. You knew what was going on in the lives of those you went to high school or college with. Or were able to see what family members across the country were up to.

Then came the privacy issues. Facebook seemed manipulative and sketchy. Trying to make everything you did public no matter how private you wanted to keep your profile and activity.

Next came the ads and games. Constantly being bombarded with who was playing what no matter how many times you opted out of game news in your feed. And the ads letting you know that your friends 'liked' everything under the sun! And that having a favorite band or movie, which Facebook suggested you list in your info, meant you 'liked' them and always wanted to know what was going with those topics.

And then at some point things really changed! No longer were people sharing their experiences, photos of their vacations or the news that they'd landed a new job or were having a baby. Now the only thing people seemed interested in sharing with their 'friends' were their opinions on who you should vote for, how you should feel about gun laws, asinine e-cards about how women can't do anything in life at all without a glass of wine and of course the posts that if you don't immediately copy and share indicate to the world that you don't care about childhood illnesses/a God/ puppies/dying people in underprivileged communities/etc.

I finally couldn't take it anymore and was over it! I decided that for the next month I was going to deactivate my account and see what life was like Facebook free. Anxious to see how I spend the extra free time at work. Curious to see if I am still in the loop with my close friend and families lives. It's going to be an interesting experiment for sure. And if all goes as planned, come March 1st I'll head back to Facebook, reactivate my account long enough to delete every last bit of my information then permanently delete my account for good.

All this said I'm not ready to drop all 'social networking' outlets. I very much enjoy the simplicity and freedom Twitter provides in 140 characters or less. And as a Google slut, of course I'm a big fan of the growing community in Google plus. I realize Google plus is ultimately the same concept as Facebook, however it's cleaner, simpler, and not preachy (yet!). And the circles are swell!

We'll see how this next month goes and what decision is made come March 1st!

Seeking an Intervention

My name is Emily and I am a Google addict. Admitting the problem is the first step, right?

I'm pretty sure there are a whole slew of things I'm addicted to that I could use help with...Mumford and Sons, taking adorable pictures of my puppies, The Beatles, and of course CrossFit....but as of late, my need to completely surround myself with Google has taken a turn for the worse.

I just discovered the Google Store. Not the Play Store or Chrome Market. A store that sells physical Google products.

Before I knew it my cart was filled with items totaling over $50. It all happened so fast!

Fortunately I was able to step away and close the window before entering my credit card information.

Since that day I have caught myself back at that little shop adding things to my cart without even realizing it. Sometimes it's just a Chrome sticker. Other times it's an Android watch and a Google snuggie. There is no science to the madness!

With the news of my Samsung Nexus finally being able to get the Jelly Bean update today, I promptly headed back to the store to purchase a pack of Android stickers to adorn my car with. I didn't even think about it, one second I was reading the article in G-reader and the next I was in the store. Thankfully I closed the window again before breaking out my credit card.

I know it's time I do something about my problem. I am seeking an intervention. A suggestion for a new hobby. A new blog to follow. A new habit to pick up. Anything! Just help me please.

I tried to distract myself at lunch today to keep myself from making a purchase and from constantly checking my phone to see if it had been coated in Jelly Bean flavor yet. However, as soon as I got back to work with nothing in my to-do box I went right back to using Jedi mind tricks on my phone to make the little notification appear.

Fingers crossed a little time at Disney will distract me from my temporary insanity! Five days and counting.

Making the move

I am not an apple fanboy. I currently own my second Macbook and of course an iPod, but over the last few years I've grown to dislike Apple more and more. Sure they're create amazing products that are beautiful, but once I realized they patent everything under the sun making it nearly impossible for anyone else to create or do anything else in technology without infringing on their 'work' I lost interest. I finally made my last move to rid Apple from my life last Thursday.

I probably very easily qualify as a Google fanboy...fangirl.  I'm on my second Android phone, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and I just ordered my Google Chrome Box. Over the last year or two I've moved more and more of my 'life' into Google products and haven't regretted it a bit. Everything is so simple and available.

I spent my weekend preparing to make the move. I went through my physical music collection and made sure I had everything already uploaded. Turns out I was missing about 50 or so complete albums. By early Saturday morning I had finally finished the uploading to my Mac and it was time to update Google Play. 789 songs and about 7 hours later Google Play was synched. Finally I spent Sunday making sure my external hard drive was backed up, just incase one of those clouds falls from the sky and I never see my music or pictures again and reformatting my Mac.

While I'm really looking forward to making the switch, part of me is sad to see Blanche (my mac) go. She was really good to me and never caused one problem. We traveled together and had lots of good times, but I know she'll be just as happy in her new home.

Part of me is also anxious about this move because I've never actually seen or used the Chrome OS. I've done my reading and I think it's just what I need since I mostly only use my computer for internet based activities. I'm not making movies, playing Half-Life or working with Photoshop. This is also the closest I've ever come to owning a 'desk top' computer. I have no intention of actually using my little box at a desk, I do intend to keep him connected to my TV as a monitor. And without a monitor he won't be an easy travel companion like Blanche was. Eventually I plan on getting an Android or Chrome based tablet, but for now my Nexus works just fine.

My new little friend is currently out for delivery and I hope he makes his arrival by lunch. Now to decide on a name, any suggestions?
