Furballs

3/29/2013 LP & WOD:
Squat: 1x5 [95 lbs], 1x2 [105, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135 lbs]

5 RFT
20 yd Bear Crawl
5 Deadlifts (115 lbs)
10 Burpees
Time: 10:47

Negative Pull-ups: 1x5
Overhead Squats: 3x3 [35 lbs]

In case you didn't pick up on those figures up there, I hit my second squat goal on Friday of 135!!!!!!!! I had zero intention of that happening, but I got to 120 decided to go until I didn't feel comfortable. Not only did I hit 135, I hit it twice! I quietly kept adding plates. I didn't tell the boyfriend when I got 125 and was attempting 130. I decided to keep this one to myself and see how far I could push myself on my own without any added support. Though he was VERY happy for me and proud that I did it. I can't wait to see where this new routine takes me over the next few months.

The WOD I did on my own was exhausting! After the first round I was pouring buckets of sweat and was struggling to squeeze out five burpees at a time. I guess I pick 'em well, huh?

Tonight starts my first full week of my own experiment program. I'm intrigued to see where this goes and if or when I'll notice any progress with the movements (pull-ups, cleans, etc) that I'm focusing more time on. I'll recap at the end of the month since I'm starting fresh on the 1st.

Just now getting over my fabulous long Easter weekend! I've decided my weekends need to be a little less fun because they make Monday's pretty brutal to deal with. Spent Friday morning in the gym then headed up to Raleigh with the boyfriend to visit with his family and to accompany him to his first tattoo appointment. It looks mega-cool! And he was a champ for enduring 3.5 hours of work on his ribs. Went on a nice long walk and watched some Turtles in the river before coming back Saturday afternoon. Spent part of Sunday with my family doing Easter brunch. Very yummy stuff.

Though one of my favorite parts of the weekend was when the boyfriend took my less social pup, Roma, to his house to play with his pup without me or my other furry kid. He's a dog whisperer! They did so well he brought his dog back over with Roma (smashed together in my MINI) to play with my other girl, Beane, on their own turf. Things went just as well there! Relieved and thrilled are the first words that come to mind. Plus Beane and I got to enjoy a nice walk in the neighborhood while they were on their puppy play date. Can't wait for the next one!

Welcome to the world of grown-ups

Today is a day of firsts for sure! I just finished my first cup of coffee. Let me change that. I just finished and enjoyed my first cup of coffee. Who knew coffee was enjoyable? I certainly didn't think it was possible.

I've always really adored the way coffee smelled, but couldn't get past it's bitterness. I decided a few months back when I was trying to get into a better morning routine that I eventually wanted to make coffee a part of that routine. Now that I'm a few weeks into a pretty good schedule of waking up earlier and cooking myself breakfast, coffee was the last piece of the puzzle.

I decided I didn't want to start this new habit with fancy blended and expensive coffee drinks from Starbucks. And having total hard-asses for a mother and grandmother who only drink their coffee black, I decided flavored creamer should be out to. No sense in drinking coffee if it tastes like a cinnamon bun, right?  Just cream and sugar for me.

One of my favorite things about this new habit I hope to form is that I finally get to drink coffee out of my fun MINI mug I was given ten ago when I got my first Cooper. I knew I hung onto it for a reason.

Unfortunately my mug doesn't make my desk look anymore grown-up.
Boy oh boy was I productive this morning! I had one of my regular Friday duties, that I usually drag out all day, finished by 8:35. And the rest of my work done by 9:25.

What am I supposed to do now? Internet here I come!

A fender bender of sorts

So today I experienced something for the first time. Something that hasn't made my life profoundly better. Something I probably could have done without.

My sister backed into my car this afternoon at my parents house. Yeah, I really could have done without that. It's not the first time my car has been hit, even been backed into in a drive way, but it's the first time my sister's done it.

Actually I want to retract the previous statement that she backed into it. That's not right. She slammed into it going backwards. My sister has a bit of a lead foot, even when backing out of the driveway. My parents have warned her about it before. I've warned her about it before. Hopefully she learned a little something from this incident!

My parent's driveway is four cars wide. Left to right her car was in the first spot. My car was behind my mom's who was in the third spot. So it was technically only two car widths over. Not too far for her to cause the damage that actually happened. I have photo's but before I would like to elaborate on how hard she really hit my car. And let me clarify that she drives a Toyota RAV-4 and I have a MINI Cooper. Both smaller-ish cars.

She hit it so hard she knocked the back corner of her bumper off. And damaged the metal under the bumper. So hard that she moved the back end of my car a little more than a foot. That she turned the driver side mirror around. So hard the driver side window shattered. That the door and interior door panel separated near the hinge. So hard that the interior door handle and speaker were almost hanging out the door panel. So hard that she asked me if I parked crooked because she moved the back end of my car about 1.5 feet.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture after it happened, but here's the damage after I got home. It's going to be a breezy ride for a few days.

For someone who just had their car smashed and will have to deal with the hassle of getting a rental or finding rides to and from work, I was pretty calm. It's just a car. Sure it sucks that my parents insurance will probably go up since my little sis is still on their policy and they have a deductible to meet to get both of our cars fixed, but no one was hurt. And it's just a car. It can be fixed.

If anything good comes from this it's that I hope my lovely little sister has realized saving 1/2 a second getting out the driveway isn't that important. And to not rely on her mirrors only.

There is one more positive that I'm a little excited about. For almost a year the motor in my drivers side window has been slowly dying. Not something that effected my cars ability to get me from point A to point B and a rather expensive fix so I've been putting it off. Well guess who's probably getting a new door and saving some money on that repair?

There's always a silver lining.
