Bridal Season

2/22/2013 WOD:
10 min AMRAP
5 Back Squat (95 lb)
50 Single Unders
5 Push-ups
Rounds: 6

I was well on my way to getting back to my normal schedule but life happens and it didn't quite work out. No hard feelings here! I went in really hoping to work on pull-ups but the rig was being dominated by some high school guys training and our superstars getting ready for the the upcoming Team WOD.

That said I had to come up with another workout on the fly so I searched back through my app and found this one. I wanted to get some squats in so there you go. Best part is that I managed to squeeze in one more full round than I did last time! I just love when that happens!

This week's schedule will be slightly skewed again but I can deal. Back in tonight for some more progressions! Feeling super amped after reading an article on 70's Big about a man who just squatted 905 lbs. Just take that in for a moment. Then watch the video and have your mind blown!

Without much intention the theme of my weekend was girly-ness! Girls night at Mellow Mushroom with my PDCF ladies. Being facebook free got me a last minute invitation but I was happy to go! Then Saturday morning my mom, sister and I left were Charleston bound for her wedding dress fitting! I was really excited because it was the first time I finally got to see her dress in person. She is going to be a beautiful bride! We picked up the college kid and got lunch at Folly Beach. And laughed our asses off! On the ride home my sister was complaining her face hurt from laughing so much. Mega fun day! The girly-ness continued Sunday with her first bridal shower. Great weekend with lots of fun ladies!

Onward and upward

1/5/2013 WOD:
8 min AMRAP
3 Push-Press (50 lb)
5 KB Slams (26 lb)
Rounds: 8

This was my first almost DNF (did not finish) workout and I still didn't complete all of it. I'm recovering from a cold and thought I was feeling up for it when 2 minutes in my throat was on fire. I opted to continue but got water after every round and took my time. After the AMRAP we were supposed to do a 6 x 25 yd prowler push at 115 lbs but I just knew the cold weather would send me over the edge so I opted to be a cheerleader instead.

As the day went on it just got better and better. The college kid and I did some clearance shopping after the WOD and hung out for the first time in days. I'm so sad she's about to head back to school for another semester! Boyfriend came over for the first of a few surprises to bring me a great plant he had gotten me for my birthday then we took his pup for a long walk. And the night capped off with a birthday dinner that boyfriend totally arranged with my family and friends at my most favorite local pizza place. I knew he had planned dinner but the location was a surprise. Even crazier was that he's pretty strict with his paleo lifestyle so he hadn't had pizza in about two years and hadn't had any sweets or baked goods since August and he indulged in both for my birthday festivities. I had such a great time with everyone and was totally worth the extra sore throat from laughing/coughing so much with everyone. Wonderful way to spend my last night at 28 and to bring in 29.

And a BIG happy birthday to little baby Roma! You're 4 years old now but I have a feeling I'll always call you baby Roma. You were an impulse decision I regretted for a good solid week but life just wouldn't have been the same without you in it. Your big sister Beane and I just can't get enough of your cuddles.

So far 29 is off to a fantastic start (cupcake for breakfast...hello, can't beat that!) and I know this year is just going to continue to get better!

Must Be Jelly Cause Jam Don't Shake

Thirty Days of Thankfulness
Day 14:  I am thankful for my sister.

My sister and I are polar opposites in so many ways. When we were growing up it caused all kinds of arguments, fights and name calling. But just like my mom told us, as we've grown up we've grown closer and I love spending time with her. Seeing that we live less than 10 miles from each other we should see each other more, but I know that I can always call her and she'll be right there for me. I love my sister more than she'll ever know and I wouldn't trade her for anything!

Day 15: I am thankful soreness.

I had to take last night off because I'm sore and bruised from Monday and Tuesday's workouts. I am grateful for the soreness because it means I'm progressing and not staying stagnant. It means I'm pushing myself into new territory that my body isn't familiar with. I'm also thankful for my first collarbone bruise. While it doesn't look pretty it means the weight wasn't easy and I was catching the bar where it's supposed to be caught.

10/15/2012 WOD:
50 yd OH Walking Lunges (10 lb)
400 m run
21 OH Squats (15 lb bar)
800 m run
21 OH Squats
400 m run
50 yd OH Walking Lunges
Time: 17:28

Tonight's challenge wasn't the workout it was the cold! I decided when I was in the locker room that I wasn't going to do the usual 400 m warm-up run because I had forgotten to bring a hoodie. Then I walk out and look at the board and see that we have to go out and run three times. Who is programming this week? Less than halfway through the 800 m run I started cramping up from going back and forth in the warm and cold. Unfortunately the cramp stuck around until the end of the WOD.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed this workout. I could really tell a difference in my legs. I guess the LP is paying off! After tonight I realized I need to add some weight to my OH squat. I think I'm still a little apprehensive of them after the incident a few months back when I just couldn't do it knowing I had done it before. However, I've successfully done OH squats twice recently so I need to add some weight to the bar. If I could get through my second set unbroken, it's too easy.

And for some Thursday night entertainment, I present to you RuPaul's Peanut Butter. The birthday boy of the wonderful dinner I went to last Friday night gave everyone mixtape party favors. I cannot stop listening to this song to save my life! Me and the fiesta rock out to it daily. Enjoy!

No new-ness

This post will contain no firsts, WODS, or mention of CrossFit. If that's what you're here for, turn back now! I'm writing just because I feel like writing and because have some free time on my hands at work today.

I was listening to a pretty sweet mix of stations (Jack White, The Shins, The Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, and Of Monsters and Men) on Pandora this morning seeking out some new tunes and one of my favorite Jack White songs came up. It's also one of my all-time favorite covers...ever. As soon as I heard it I loved it!  Unfortunately there isn't a video, but a clever little guy over on YouTube posted the song so you can enjoy it too! If you don't care for it, please don't tell me because I'm not sure we'll be able to remain friends.

I'm not sure what it is about that man, but he just does something to me. If I was only able to listen to five people sing for the rest of my life, he would be in that top five. And to think he almost spent his life reupholstering other people's furniture. My ears are happy he dropped his tools for a guitar.

And now for the worlds worst segue.

Having gone through separation and an impending divorce for the better part of a year, you would think I would be very skeptical and concerned for my sister's upcoming nuptials, jealous even. Plus she's only 24, finishing up school and her fiance is a good 7 years older than her. But I am not! I am BEYOND happy for her! She dated a bit more than I did so I've seen her with other guys, but I have never seen her as happy and glowing as I do now. I love that I will get to stand beside her next May and know that I couldn't have hand-picked a better guy for her. And I love even more that she had the balls to ask him to marry her! They are amazing together and I hope one day I'm lucky enough to have what they have with each other. He treats her exactly how she should be treated and knows how to handle her quirks.

I'm happy that I wasn't left jaded and bitter and that I cannot wait to see my little sister become a Mrs.
